Overview
Protection Warrior converts damage taken into rage and rage into mitigation. You choose between Shield Block for physical hits and Ignore Pain as a general absorb, which makes the spec more reactive than most tanks — you are reading the damage pattern and picking the right answer rather than maintaining one buff.
How this spec operates
- Rage converts to
Shield Block (physical) or
Ignore Pain (general absorb) — read the damage type.
Shield Slam on cooldown is your main rage generator and threat button.- Don't spend all rage on
Ignore Pain — hold some to react to incoming spikes.
Thunder Clap maintains the debuff and generates rage on packs.- Best tank mobility —
Charge,
Heroic Leap, and
Intervene solve positioning.
