Devourer Demon Hunter

Mid-range Void caster that farms Soul Fragments into Void Metamorphosis and Collapsing Star.

Damage
Gear: Method.ggBuilds: Archon consensus, M+ This Week (+7–+19)Updated 10/29/2026 by Guild guides
Playing

Devourer is Demon Hunter's Intellect caster. Outside its cooldown you build Fury with Consume, collect Soul Fragments with Reap and spend 100 Fury on full Void Ray channels. After harvesting 50 fragments, Void Metamorphosis unlocks: your Fury slowly drains, Consume and Reap become Devour and Cull, and every 30 fragments harvested inside the form unlock a Collapsing Star. Annihilator is the recommended hero tree for all content in 12.1.5.

Difficulty
Two resources and two different priorities: one to farm Soul Fragments and Fury into Void Metamorphosis, another inside it to fit in as many Collapsing Stars as possible. Clipping Void Ray or letting fragments expire costs a lot.

Builds / Talents

Raid and Mythic+ talents

  • AnnihilatorRaid and Mythic+Recommended for raid and Mythic+ in 12.1.5 and the most common pick among top key pushers. It plays like a pure caster: Reap and Eradicate build Voidfall stacks that call down meteors, and Void Metamorphosis is about stacking big Collapsing Stars.
  • Void-ScarredSituationalHigh burst potential through Voidsurge and melee-range buttons like Voidblade, The Hunt and Reaper's Toll woven into Void Metamorphosis, but easy to disrupt and currently behind Annihilator.

28 of the top 50 Mythic+ players run Annihilator (4028–4254 rating). Murlok.io

Utility

Interrupts, defensives, and what you bring

Interrupts

  • Disrupt is your interrupt on a 15-second cooldown.
  • Chaos Nova stuns every enemy around you for 3 seconds.
  • Imprison removes a demon, beast or humanoid from the fight.

Staying alive

  • Blur every minute: 25% damage reduction for 10 seconds.
  • Soul Immolation heals you as part of the rotation; press it early if you are taking damage.
  • Darkness protects you and the group from a share of incoming attacks.

Utility

  • Chaos Brand passively makes your targets take more magic damage.
  • Darkness is a group damage-avoidance cooldown.
  • Consume Magic strips a magic buff from an enemy.
  • Most of your casts work while moving, so you can stay on target through mechanics.

In Mythic+

  • Carry Soul Fragments into the next pack and enter Void Metamorphosis as soon as it unlocks on a fresh pull.
  • Use Eradicate at 10 fragments in AoE, or at 4+ when it will trigger Voidfall.
  • Never let fragments expire on the floor between pulls; Reap them up before moving on.
  • Recast Soul Immolation as Void Metamorphosis ends to start the next build-up quickly.

Mistakes

What do people get wrong?

  1. Clipping Void Ray

    Wrong
    1. Void Ray (cancelled after 2 seconds)
    2. Reap
    Right
    1. Void Ray (full channel)
    2. Eradicate

Only a full channel upgrades Reap to Eradicate.

  2. Small Reaps

    Wrong
    1. Reap (1 fragment)
    2. Consume
    3. Consume
    Right
    1. Consume
    2. Consume
    3. Reap (4+ fragments)

Reap's value and the tier set bonus both come from collecting many fragments at once.

  3. Holding Collapsing Star

    Wrong
    1. Devour
    2. Devour
    3. Collapsing Star (late)
    Right
    1. Collapsing Star
    2. Void Ray
    3. Cull

Every Collapsing Star cast also slows the Fury drain; delaying it shortens the window and loses a cast.

  4. Wasting Soulburst

    Wrong
    1. Reap
    2. Void Ray
    3. Soulburst expires
    Right
    1. Reap
    2. Consume (Soulburst)
    3. Void Ray

Soulburst makes the next Consume instant and adds an explosion; spend it right away.

Playstyle

Is this spec for me?

How it plays

  • Outside Void Metamorphosis: Reap at 4+ fragments, Void Ray at 100 Fury, Consume as filler.
  • Always channel Void Ray fully; a full channel upgrades Reap to Eradicate.
  • Inside Void Metamorphosis: fit in as many Collapsing Stars as possible (4 to 5 on single target as Annihilator).
  • Spend Soulburst procs immediately on an instant Consume or Devour.
  • Recast Soul Immolation as you drop out of Void Metamorphosis to restart the build-up.

Strong at

  • Large burst inside Void Metamorphosis
  • Strong AoE through Eradicate and Voidfall meteors
  • Ranged, with most casts usable while moving, plus Chaos Brand for the group

Weak at

  • No burst at the very start of a fight; Void Metamorphosis has to be farmed
  • Clipping Void Ray or wasting fragments costs a lot
  • Two separate priorities to learn
