In World of Warcraft: Forever, a familiar item in the Deadmines got an updated effect that allows players to mine without the mining profession!.

Updated Rockslicer in WoW: Forever.

Like gear across the game, loot from Deadmines received updated stats in WoW: Forever. One of the items, Rockslicer, now allows the wielder to mine Copper, Tin, Silver, and even Iron nodes for 30 charges. When all 30 charges are used, players will still have the weapon on them, but will lose its profession use.

(note that the tooltip in game does not show the 30 charges to other players).

Without Rockslicer, a Miner would need a skill of 125 to mine Iron. Theoretically, a player could farm multiple Rockslicers and be able to mine Iron Deposit without the profession. This could be particularly attractive to players who picked both Engineering and Blacksmithing as their professions, especially early on, since they now have access to the ore without needing the Auction House (and could then have the ore smelted by a friend/guildie who is a miner).

Items like this open up a new path for players regarding trade skills, and could have a distinct impact on the economy as well. With the charges being limited, thankfully this isn't a required farm for most players, but it would be especially helpful to those who were already planning to farm for their materials for use or profit.
